Tóbiás Terebessy graduated from the Sopron University – Institute of Applied Arts, as an artist/designer. He founded Medence Csoport (Pool Group) with András Gross and Gergő Magyar in 2000. As a stage designer, he works with several theatre companies, for example the Living Picture Company, with whom he has created a number of performances for venues such as Trafó among others. As an independent artist, his work focuses on playful experimentation with light and sound. In his works with the Pool Group, the two most important directions are 1) ephemeral interventions in public space (most often created for festivals or other events and with a predominantly interactive character) and 2) recycling and conceiving new designer ideas or objects from used material. Tóbiás likes to avoid the word „designer“ when speaking either of his own work or his collective projects (with Pool Group or other formations), because nowadays it implies a certain mass production with which he does not identify, so he would rather define himself as an artist/designer who manoeuvres on the boundaries of visual art and applied art and focuses on unusual solutions and combinations.
His most recent projects include a programme series connected to the 10th anniversary of Pool Group (MCSX) during which the collective organized a series of exhibitions and debates, and also created an extraordinary „variety show“ on Trafó’s stage.
