PROGRAMME DURING THE SITE VISIT
Work-in-progress presentation of PROPAGANDA!, the new production of united sorry (A/NL) and The Symptoms
During the site visit, the international guests of dunaPart will not only get acquainted with our premises and artistic director, Laszlo Hudi, but will also be introduced to the work of The Symptoms who are currently in creation with an international collaboration at Florian Workshop led by Frans Poelstra and Robert Steijn.
More information about The Symptoms and their new production
In 2009 The Symptoms launched a collaboration with the Dutch-Austrian artist duo united sorry (Frans Poelstra & Robert Steijn) on the issue of propaganda. The project questions the language and imagery of the current political debate and investigates the feeling of home and the notion of identity in an always changing society. Propaganda! premiering on 24 February 2011 in Trafó Budapest, will develop creative ways out of the simplifying and exclusive public discourses by combining rhetorical theatre with performance art.
Frans Poelstra first worked with The Symptoms in 2007 in the frame of a workshop. This collaboration is a continuation to a research by united sorry ("lost in space" brut Wien, 2010, „Holy Shit”, Vienna, 2010), and the first stage of a series of collaborations initiated by united sorry to investigate the issue of propaganda in different formats in different European countries.
More about Florian Workshop
Florian Workshop was the first production house to be opened in Hungary, founded in 2006 by Moving House Foundation.
Its premises are the former Florian Cinema located in the Óbuda district of Budapest. The cinema space was transformed into a performance space equipped with light, sound and video equipment, in order to host the creative processes (rehearsals, workshops, artistic residencies) of the local contemporary performing arts scene, particularly artists active in the field of independent theatre, contemporary dance and new circus.
Florian Workshop is actively involved in local partnerships with organisations such as Trafó – House of Contemporary, MU Theatre and Workshop Foundation: many productions supported and presented by the latter have been produced in Florian Workshop. Thanks to such partnerships Florian Workshop has also participated in international co-productions by providing its infrastructure.
Moving House Foundation, the NGO running Florian Workshop is also involved in the artistic programming of Arcus Temporum Festival of Contemporary Art, an annual event organized by the Pannonhalma Benedictine Archabbey in Pannonhalma, Hungary. In the frame of the festival Moving House Foundation invites small-format international productions and promotes collaborations with local artists each year. International artists presented by the festival include: Christian Rizzo (F), Compagnie Greffe (CH), Andrea Bozic (HR/NL) among others.
Florian Workshop is looking for international partners who share its mission to support creative processes and aid the production of innovative and cutting edge artistic work. Our primary goal in the coming years is to become part of European and international networks of production houses and to host artistic residencies in Budapest by providing our infrastructure (performance/rehearsal space, technical equipment), artistic consultation, and production and management know-how. In this context we would also like to promote the artistic mobility of Hungarian artists, as well as collaborative works between Hungarian and international companies.
